Braintree
PayPal's merchant gateway: cards, wallets and PayPal itself through one integration, settling in over 130 currencies.
Braintree is the gateway PayPal sells to larger merchants, as distinct from the PayPal button. One integration takes cards, PayPal, Venmo and the major wallets, with vaulting and recurring billing built in.
Its notable number is currencies: Braintree settles in more than 130, split between those the card schemes and acquirers provide and a set it sources itself. For a merchant selling into many markets off one entity, presenting in the buyer's own currency is the thing it is usually chosen for.
Where Braintree merchant accounts can be opened is not published. Third-party integration guides disagree with each other — the figures range from 27 countries to 45 — so no country coverage is recorded here. Ask Braintree directly before relying on a number anyone quotes you, including ours.
What Braintree costs
Braintree quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
What the last check found
Currencies are from Braintree's own currency reference, which lists over 130; the subset recorded here is the one this directory's currency taxonomy already carries. Merchant country availability is deliberately empty: Braintree does not publish it and third-party sources contradict one another. Card brands are from the same documentation set.
From the last check against Braintree’s own documentation. Coverage changes; confirm anything you are about to build on.
