Global Payments
One of the largest merchant acquirers in the world: 6m+ merchant locations, 175+ countries, and the owner of Worldpay since January 2026.
Global Payments is a merchant acquirer at the top end of the scale. It serves more than six million merchant locations, processes around $3.7 trillion of payment volume and roughly 94 billion transactions a year, and operates in more than 175 countries. It is listed in New York as GPN and based in Atlanta.
In January 2026 it completed the acquisition of Worldpay from FIS and GTCR for $24.25bn, and in the same transaction sold its own Issuer Solutions business to FIS — reshaping itself into a pure merchant-acceptance company. It now goes to market in three channels: enterprise, small business, and integrated platforms.
For anyone comparing providers here, note that Worldpay is listed separately and is now part of this company. The two are the same group, sold under two names.
What Global Payments costs
Global Payments quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
What the last check found
Scale figures, the 175+ country claim, the headquarters and the Worldpay transaction are all from Global Payments' own completion announcement. No country, method or currency list is published, so none is recorded. The company's main site returns 403 to automated requests, so the investor announcement is the primary source used here.
From the last check against Global Payments’s own documentation. Coverage changes; confirm anything you are about to build on.
