What Hipercard costs

Hipercard quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found

Hipercard is a Brazilian domestic credit-card brand and issuer, not a gateway. hipercard.com.br is an Itaú Unibanco consumer property — its cookie and privacy terms are served from itau.com.br — with only four nav destinations (a hipercard, cartões, serviços, nossa história). There is no merchant area, no developer portal and no API, so a merchant can never integrate it alone; acceptance was always intermediated. The official history page records that Unibanco took over issuing, acquiring and the brand in 2004 when Walmart bought the Bom Preço supermarket chain, that acquiring moved to Rede in 2011, and that the Hiper/Hipercard payment arrangement was only constituted in 2014, separating issuer from scheme. After Brazilian acquiring opened up in 2017, acceptance passed one million merchants. It began in 1968–69 as a Bom Preço store card in Recife and stayed strongest in the Northeast.

The thing to know in 2026: the scheme is dead. CERC's July 2025 notice to arrangement participants states the Hiper/Hipercard arrangement was closed with all Hipercard-branded cards migrated to Mastercard by 30 June 2025, after which Hipercard transactions are not authorised and new captures must be taken on the Mastercard arrangement. Cielo says the same — discontinued 30/06/2025, transactions refused thereafter — and Hipercard is absent from Cielo's accepted-brand list. Hipercard's own card page now marks every product (Mastercard Internacional Zero, Nacional, Clássico, Mastercard Platinum) "indisponível para contratação". The brand survives as a Mastercard co-brand, app and discount programme.

PSP documentation has not caught up. Adyen, PPRO, Antom, Computop and EBANX still list HIPERCARD as live: BR only, BRL for processing and settlement, credit only (no debit), installments supported, Adyen quoting a 30-day settlement delay. Treat those enums as legacy BIN handling, not routable capability.

Hipercard publishes no country or currency list of its own, has no sitemap.xml and no llms.txt (both 404 on its S3-backed static host), and the edge blocks non-Brazilian requests with an Akamai 403 — BR/BRL here rests on acquirer and PSP documentation, not on the brand's own pages.
