Disclaimer
Airwallex began in Melbourne in 2015, when five founders including Jack Zhang and Lucy Liu set out to cut what cross-border payments cost a small exporter. It has grown into one of the larger private fintechs outside the United States, raising $320m in June 2026 at an $11bn valuation in a round led by Addition, and it now runs dual headquarters in Singapore and San Francisco. At that round it put annualised revenue at $1.3bn and annualised transaction volume at $287bn, across roughly 676,000 business customers.
Three things merchants usually buy separately arrive together here. A multi-currency account gives local details in currencies including USD, GBP, EUR, AUD, SGD, HKD, JPY, CNY, MXN, ILS and AED. FX is priced at 0.5% above interbank for major pairs and 1% for the rest. And Airwallex acquires cards in its own name across Australia, Canada, Switzerland, the EEA, Hong Kong, Israel, Japan, Mexico, Malaysia, New Zealand, Singapore, the UK and the US, with roughly 160 local methods layered on top: iDEAL, BLIK, Bancontact, eps, Bizum, FPX, DuitNow, GrabPay, Alipay, Konbini, Klarna, Afterpay and Atome among them.
Pricing is published, which is unusual at this size, but it varies sharply by market. UK domestic cards run at 1.30% + 20p, Australia at 1.65% + A$0.30, the US at 2.80% + $0.30 and Hong Kong at 3.30% + HK$2.35, each with a higher international-card rate and a paid plan tier above the free one.
Two limits are worth checking early. Airwallex only accepts businesses registered in about 68 countries and territories, so the places it pays out to are not the places it can onboard you. Its acceptable-use policy also rules out gambling, games of skill and adult content outright, with no enhanced-diligence route around either.
