Nuvei

Nuvei is a Canadian payment processor headquartered in Montreal. Philip Fayer founded it in 2003 as Pivotal Payments, and it grew mainly by acquisition, buying SafeCharge, Smart2Pay, Mazooma, Paymentez, the crypto on-ramp Simplex, the US processor Paya and Australia's Till Payments. After listings in Toronto and on Nasdaq, it was taken private by Advent International in a US$6.3bn deal completed in November 2024, with Fayer staying on as chair and chief executive. In June 2026 Nuvei agreed to buy Payoneer for about US$2.75bn, a deal not expected to close before mid-2027.

The offer to merchants is card acquiring plus one integration to a long catalogue of local methods. Nuvei quotes reach in more than 190 markets, local acquiring in 52, 150 currencies and over 720 alternative payment methods, although its developer documentation lists 117 currency codes. The catalogue runs from PayPal, Skrill and Apple Pay to PIX and Boleto in Brazil, OXXO and SPEI in Mexico, Interac in Canada, UPI in India and mobile money in West and East Africa. Its own acquiring recently extended to Colombia (2024), Canada and Japan (2025) and Mexico (2026). Payouts, card issuing, multi-currency accounts with European IBANs, crypto on- and off-ramps and USDC settlement run on the same platform.

Licensing is broad: e-money institutions in the UK, Cyprus and Lithuania, a Dutch payment institution, a MiCA crypto-asset licence in Lithuania, a major payment institution licence in Singapore, an Australian financial services licence and US money transmitter licences in 39 jurisdictions.

The platform is aimed at mid-sized and large merchants selling across borders, with particular depth in regulated online gaming and sports betting, financial services, travel, marketplaces and digital goods. There is no general price list (a card rate table for Peru, required by the regulator there, is the exception), and its public payment-method directory contains some stale entries, so confirm specific methods and countries with sales before signing.
