Merchants do not pay MTN directly. Each payment provider that offers it sets its own rate, so compare a few and ask them to quote.

What the last check found

MTN is MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), MTN Group's telco wallet — a phone-number/PIN rail, not a bank redirect. Of the gateways checked, only dLocal documents it, and dLocal is the better integration source because it names the country and currency precisely: MTN is `payment_method_id` `MT`, `payment_method_type` `BANK_TRANSFER`, flow `DIRECT`, alongside sibling telcos (Vodafone/AirtelTigo in Ghana, Airtel in Uganda and Rwanda, Orange in Cameroon, Moov/Orange/Wave in Ivory Coast). dLocal states MTN pay-ins in five markets with their currencies: Ghana (GHS), Uganda (UGX), Cameroon (XAF), Ivory Coast (XOF) and Rwanda (RWF); it states refunds are supported for Mobile Money, and a 10-minute payment expiry in Ghana. The customer gets a push notification and authorises with a PIN, so the flow is async — expect PENDING before PAID. dLocal also accepts `MTN` as an `instant_payment.type` for payouts ("Wallet transfers", `INSTANT_PAYMENT`) in Ghana, Uganda, Cameroon, Ivory Coast, Rwanda and Benin (XOF), so this rail works both directions. It is absent from Adyen, Airwallex, Antom, Stripe, Rapyd's EMEA list, Checkout.com's index and EBANX (whose only African mobile money page is M-PESA Kenya).

MTN's own developer portal publishes per-country Collections, Disbursement, Remittance and Widget agreements, which is how Zambia, Nigeria, Liberia, Eswatini, Guinea-Conakry, Congo and South Africa (stated as "the South African Rand") are recorded here. Documentation is thin: those pages state no currency except Uganda (UGX), several share boilerplate that still names Ivory Coast (Benin and Congo most visibly), and nobody states recurring, partial refunds or chargebacks. MTN Group claims 19 markets but lists 14; Sudan and South Sudan have T&C pages only, so they are left out. Web search quota was exhausted, so this rests on fetched docs alone.

Checked again on 2026-10-21 and corrected: Identity is right and the known trap was avoided: this is MTN Group's MTN Mobile Money (MoMo), the telco wallet, not M_Service's Vietnamese MoMo — the record itself flags that Adyen's only "MoMo" row is VN/VND, a different method. I corroborated the operator from MTN's own pages: South Africa Collections names "Mobile
