Website

Rapyd is an Israeli payments company, started in Tel Aviv in 2016 by Arik Shtilman, Arkady Karpman and Omer Priel, with a substantial London operation alongside it. The platform bundles card acquiring, local payment methods, payouts, e-wallets, virtual accounts and card issuing behind one API. Growth has come mainly from buying acquirers: the Icelandic processors Korta in 2020 and Valitor in 2022 for roughly US$110m, then PayU's Global Payment Organisation business in March 2025.

That last deal is worth pinning down. Rapyd paid about US$610m for PayU's Latin American operation, covering Mexico, Brazil, Argentina, Chile, Colombia and Peru, together with Nigeria and South Africa, funded by a US$500m raise that valued the company near US$4.5bn. PayU's Polish and wider central European business stayed with Prosus, and India, Türkiye and South-East Asia were never in scope, so Rapyd's reach in those markets is not PayU's.

Headline claims of 190-plus markets and 1,200 payment methods run well ahead of the documentation. Rapyd's developer guides name around 48 countries across Europe, the Middle East and Africa, 13 in Asia-Pacific and nine in the Americas, with local options including Pix and Boleto, SPEI and the Mexican cash network, Bancolombia, PSE and Banco Estado, GCash, GrabPay, QRIS, PromptPay, PayNow and KakaoPay. Licensed entities include Rapyd Europe hf in Iceland, Rapyd Payments Limited in the UK (FCA firm reference 900688), a major payment institution in Singapore, a money service operator in Hong Kong, a payment services licence in Israel and FinCEN registration in the United States.

It fits mid-sized and larger sellers wanting one contract across Europe, Latin America and parts of Asia, and businesses paying out to sellers or contractors. Most pricing is Interchange++ on quote, although domestic card rates are published for Chile, Colombia and Peru, and inactivity fees apply in several Latin American markets. Gambling, gaming, marketplaces and crypto businesses sit on the restricted list and need compliance approval first.
