Flutterwave

African payments: cards, mobile money, bank transfer and USSD across fourteen collection markets.

Flutterwave is the acceptance layer most businesses selling into Africa reach for, and the method list is why. Cards are the least of it: Nigeria alone takes USSD, bank transfer, direct bank account debit, internet banking, the NIBSS QR rail, eNaira and OPay; Kenya is M-Pesa; Ghana, Uganda, Rwanda, Tanzania, Zambia, Malawi and both Francophone CFA zones each have their own mobile money; Egypt has Fawry; South Africa adds 1Voucher.

That is the shape of African payments and it is why a card-only provider converts badly there. The payout side mirrors it — bank transfers, mobile money and cash pickup, country by country — and there is a stablecoin wallet product in USDC, USDT and RLUSD.

It publishes a documented bank directory per country, which matters for anything paying out rather than collecting.

What Flutterwave costs

Flutterwave quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found

Countries, currencies and methods are from Flutterwave's own payment-methods documentation, which publishes a method-by-country-and-currency table. Two entries in that table are regions rather than countries — 'Europe' against EUR and 'Francophone Africa' against XAF and XOF — so no country rows are claimed for them; the currencies are recorded, the member states are not, because the source does not name them.

Worth knowing about the source: its two tables disagree with each other. The methods table pairs mobilemoneyxaf with Central Africa and mobilemoneyxof with West Africa; the country table reverses them. It also uses method values in one table that do not appear in the other (ghanamobilemoney, mobilemoneymalawi, mobilemoneytanzania, internetbanking, enaira, 1voucher). The documentation itself says to check these against the live API. Zambia appears in the methods documentation rather than the country table and is included on that basis.

Headquarters recorded as Nigeria on the strength of the business being Nigerian-founded and Nigeria-centric; the documentation does not state it, and the group has a US holding company, so treat it as approximate.
