What SEPA Instant costs

Merchants do not pay SEPA Instant directly. Each payment provider that offers it sets its own rate, so compare a few and ask them to quote.

This is a category rather than a branded payment method, so it carries no country of its own — a category that inherits one product's footprint states something false. Where the write-up below refers to a recorded country or currency, this line is the correction.

Checked 2026-10-21: The researcher's conclusion (no countries) is right, but the kind is wrong and one source must go. KIND — corrected from not_a_payment_method to category.

SCT Inst is a scheme, not a product. The EPC publishes it alongside SCT, SDD Core, SDD B2B and OCT Inst under "EPC payment schemes"; its page is subtitled "EPC scheme to make real-time payments in SEPA". Clearing and settlement run on TIPS and RT1, which no merchant integrates. Launched November 2017 (rulebook published November 2016); the version in effect is the 2025 rulebook v1.2, published 30 September 2026.

Scheme facts the EPC states: euro only; funds available to the payee in under ten seconds, 24/7/365; since the 2025 rulebook "a maximum amount at scheme level is no longer applied" beyond the amended SEPA Regulation's own limit; internal sub-timelines moved from 10-20-25 to 5-7-9 seconds. EUR is the one coverage field that is safe here — it is hard-coded in the rulebook and stated by both the EPC ("enables euro credit transfers") and the ECB ("all instant credit transfers in euro are based on" SCT Inst).

Why no countries. The EPC says the scheme "will progressively span over all 41 SEPA countries" — future tense — and that PSPs "are invited to adhere", so reachability is per-PSP, not per-country. The ECB states instant payments are "not available to the same degree across all SEPA jurisdictions." Regulation (EU) 2024/886 now compels EEA PSPs on a staggered calendar (eurozone credit institutions: receive 9 Jan 2025, send 9 Oct 2025; EMIs, PIs and non-euro EEA PSPs later), so any list would mix a moving legal mandate with per-bank reality.

An integrator will not find this as a selectable method: absent from Adyen's 113-method matrix, Stripe's support table, Airwallex, Antom and Worldline's per-method sitemap, which all list only SEPA Direct Debit. Tink alone names it, as a paymentScheme enum (SEPA_INSTANT_CREDIT_TRANSFER) picking the rail inside an open-banking initiation — 11 markets, plus Norway for Revolut accounts only, which shows the per-bank reality. Tink's Sweden row shows market currency SEK; that is the column for all its schemes, not a claim SCT Inst settles in SEK. Consumer-facing A2A brands (Wero, Pay by Bank, Trustly, Brite) settle over this rail. Many banks and PSPs — BNP Paribas, TrustPay, EMBank, Postbank Bulgaria — market their own SCT Inst service as "SEPA Instant", so the name is a scheme label reused by many providers, not one brand. It is not a duplicate of the existing sepa-credit-transfer listing: SCT Inst is a separate scheme with its own rulebook and participant register.

  2. EPC rulebook and IGs to implement the SCT Inst scheme · europeanpaymentscouncil.eucountriesmethodslimits & timingUsed for Scheme is euro-only and 'will progressively span over all 41 SEPA countries' with PSPs 'invited to adhere' (basis for empty country list); 2025 rulebook v1.2 published 30 Sep 2026; scheme-level maximum amount no longer applied; 5-7-9 second sub-timelines; ISO 20022 implementation guidelines.Checked 21 October 2026
  3. Instant payments — European Central Bank · ecb.europa.eucountriescurrenciesmethodsUsed for ECB states all euro instant credit transfers are based on the SCT Inst scheme, that instant payments are 'not available to the same degree across all SEPA jurisdictions', and that TIPS settles them — supporting the empty country list and the EUR currency.Checked 21 October 2026
  4. Market-specific information — Tink docs · docs.tink.comcountriesmethodsUsed for The only gateway doc naming it: SEPA_INSTANT_CREDIT_TRANSFER as a paymentScheme enum in 11 markets (AT, EE, FI, FR, DE, IT, LT, NL, PT, ES, SE), plus Norway for Revolut only — evidence it is a rail selector, and that availability is per-bank.Checked 21 October 2026
  5. Tink Docs index (llms.txt) · docs.tink.comcountriesmethodsUsed for Negative check on the full 42KB Tink docs index: zero occurrences of 'sepa' or 'instant' as a documented product — Tink does not document SEPA Instant as a method, only as a scheme value inside the market page.Checked 21 October 2026
  6. Payment methods — Adyen docs · docs.adyen.comcountriesmethodsUsed for Negative: the 113-method matrix has no SEPA Instant / SCT Inst entry; only SEPA Direct Debit (EUR, euro-area countries) and a generic euro-area 'Bank transfer' row.Checked 21 October 2026
  7. Payment method support — Stripe docs · docs.stripe.comcountriescurrenciesmethodsUsed for Negative: country/currency support table lists SEPA debit only; no SEPA Instant or SEPA Credit Transfer as a payment method.Checked 21 October 2026
  8. Payment methods — Airwallex docs · airwallex.comlimits & timingUsed for Negative: only SEPA Direct Debit (EU, EUR, T+6); no SEPA Instant or SEPA Credit Transfer.Checked 21 October 2026
  9. Payment methods — Antom docs · docs.antom.commethodsUsed for Negative: no SEPA Instant / SCT Inst entry; European A2A coverage is branded instead (Trustly, Pay by Bank, Wero), which is what actually sits on top of the rail.Checked 21 October 2026
  10. Worldline Direct docs sitemap · docs.direct.worldline-solutions.commethodsUsed for Negative via sitemap (not a guessed path): the only SEPA page is /payment-methods/sepa-direct-debit and there are no 'instant' pages at all — Worldline publishes no SEPA Instant method page.Checked 21 October 2026
  11. EBANX docs index (llms.txt) · docs.ebanx.comcountriesmethodsUsed for Negative: EBANX covers Latin America, Africa and Asia; no SEPA or European instant bank transfer method, so no coverage to draw from.Checked 21 October 2026
  12. Payout - SEPA Instant - J.P. Morgan Payments developer docs · developer.payments.jpmorgan.comcountriesmethodslimits & timingcapabilitiesUsed for Refutes the record's claim that Tink is the only gateway doc naming it, and shows how a gateway actually exposes it: SEPA Instant as a payout RAIL inside JPM Wallet, EUR to EUR only, EUR 100,000 transaction limit, no cut-off time, requiring the counterparty bank to support SEPA Instant. Its 'There are 36 SEPA countries' line describes the region, not per-country method support, so it yields no country coverage.Checked 21 October 2026
  13. Payout network: Europe - Ripple Payments Direct docs · docs.ripple.comcountriesmethodslimits & timingcapabilitiesUsed for Second gateway naming SEPA Instant, again as a routing/limit tier rather than a method: EUR up to EUR 100,000 goes instant, larger amounts route via SEPA Standard, no minimum, 24/7. Explicitly does NOT tie SEPA Instant to individual countries - its 37-country list is Ripple's EUR payout network - which is why that list must not be imported as coverage.Checked 21 October 2026
