Venmo is PayPal's US consumer wallet. venmo.com/about/us states plainly, "We're owned by PayPal," and the user agreement names the counterparty as PayPal, Inc. There is no name collision risk here: the site, the legal entity and the recorded country all point the same way.
Both existing values are published, not inferred. PayPal's Pay with Venmo documentation states eligibility as "US-based merchants and US-based consumers only" and "Payment must be in USD." Braintree's Venmo guide adds that you may use it "only with United States-based business entities" and that "support for this feature from outside of the US is not currently available." The user agreement requires account holders to "be in the United States and have a U.S. bank account."
One nuance worth recording without letting it inflate the footprint: Venmo now markets sending "money internationally to PayPal users in 90+ countries" with a choice of "25 currencies." That is outbound P2P into PayPal wallets, not Venmo availability or merchant settlement — the same agreement confirms "Payments sent to Venmo accounts will always be received in USD." The acceptance footprint remains US/USD.
For integration: Venmo publishes no API of its own. venmo.com's sitemap has 71 pages and no developer section; every technical route redirects to developer.paypal.com, either Braintree (Android v5, iOS v6, JavaScript v3 SDKs) or PayPal Standard Checkout, which mandates the JavaScript SDK. So a merchant can onboard self-serve at a published 3.49% + $0.49 per US transaction, or take payments with no checkout system at all via a Venmo business profile or Tap to Pay on iPhone — but in practice Venmo is reachable only through PayPal-owned rails. Two gotchas from the Braintree docs: the flow will not load inside an iframe, and the buyer must have the Venmo app installed, with mobile buyers restricted to Safari on iOS or Chrome on Android.
