What Virtual IBAN costs
Merchants do not pay Virtual IBAN directly. Each payment provider that offers it sets its own rate, so compare a few and ask them to quote.

What the last check found
This is not a payment method. It is infrastructure that makes an ordinary transfer reconcile itself, so its availability follows a provider's banking licences rather than any consumer scheme, and no country or currency is recorded against it. Where the write-up below refers to a recorded country or currency, this line is the correction.
Checked 2026-10-21: The core call survives refutation: "Virtual IBAN" is not a payment method and must carry no coverage. Two annotations in the record are wrong and one framing under-claims, so it needs correcting before it is recorded.
What it is: an IBAN (ISO 13616) issued in bulk against a provider's pooled account. Solaris calls vIBANs "purely routing addresses" holding no funds — receive-only, SEPA Credit Transfer only, no direct debit, no outbound payment, no card. The money movement is an ordinary credit transfer (SCT/SCT Inst, Faster Payments, a local rail); the vIBAN is the addressing and reconciliation layer. A checkout never offers "Virtual IBAN" as a choice — it offers "Bank transfer" and then shows vIBAN funding instructions. Hence infrastructure, not a method.
No gateway payment-method matrix lists it. Absent from Adyen's 113-method table, Airwallex, Antom, Stripe's payment-method-support table, and Worldline's per-method sitemap. It appears only as an API product, and those products' coverage differs too much to inherit: Mangopay states issuance by country/wallet currency (AU, CA, DK, DE/FR/ES/LU EUR, GB, LI, US, plus ~20 non-local currencies from LU; CZ/HU/NO/PL/SE planned) and defers to a live availability endpoint; Stripe issues a per-customer virtual account in EUR/GBP/JPY/MXN/USD with IBAN localisation only for DE, FR, IE, NL; Rapyd's capabilities endpoint must be queried per country (SG example returns 11 currencies); dLocal's "virtual accounts" are BR, MX, ID, PH, NG, VN — not IBANs at all.
Name collision: the Indonesian and Korean "Virtual Account" (EBANX, Antom) is a genuinely consumer-facing method using a domestic account number, unrelated to IBAN.
Where sources are silent: nobody publishes a vIBAN country list, because coverage tracks the issuer's licences and sponsor bank, not a scheme. OpenPayd has no public matrix (press, Nov 2025, cites UK, FR, MT, NL issuance). The EBA's 24 May 2024 report found no common definition and national regulators diverging on applying AMLD, PSD2 and the SEPA Regulation to vIBANs — the regulatory status itself is unsettled.
Recommendation: drop the existing 1 country and 1 currency row (unsourced and unsupportable) and fold this into Bank Transfer as an attribute. The repo's own GENERIC_SLUGS already flags virtual-iban as naming a kind of payment rather than a brand.

- Virtual Accounts — Mangopay docs · docs.mangopay.comUsed for Primary gateway doc (URL slug is literally virtual-iban): defines virtual accounts as an IBAN/local identifier attached to a wallet, USER_OWNED vs COLLECTION types, stated issuance countries and wallet currencies, LU non-local currency list, SCT Inst and UK Faster Payments arrival, and deferral to a live availability endpointChecked 21 October 2026
- Bank transfer payments — Stripe docs · docs.stripe.comUsed for Confirms the mechanism is sold as 'Bank transfers' (API enum customer_balance), not as 'Virtual IBAN': Stripe provides a per-customer virtual bank account number to automate reconciliation; account eligibility table for EUR/USD/GBP/JPY/MXN; IBAN localization limited to DE, FR, IE, NLChecked 21 October 2026
- Virtual Accounts — dLocal docs · docs.dlocal.comUsed for dLocal's virtual account product definition ('a unique identifier, often resembling a bank account number') and its stated coverage — BR, MX, ID, PH, NG, VN — which are not IBAN markets; the term 'virtual IBAN' is never usedChecked 21 October 2026
- vIBANs — Solaris docs · docs.solarisgroup.comUsed for Clearest statement that a vIBAN is a routing address holding no funds: receive-only, SEPA Credit Transfer only, no SDD, no outbound, no card; receiver_iban_virtual field for reconciliation; no country or currency statementChecked 21 October 2026
- List Capabilities of Virtual Accounts — Rapyd docs · docs.rapyd.netUsed for Shows Rapyd publishes no static coverage list: the endpoint is filtered per country and returns that country's supported currencies (SG example returns AUD, CHF, EUR, GBP, HKD, JPY, NOK, NZD, SEK, SGD, USD)Checked 21 October 2026
- Payment methods — Adyen docs · docs.adyen.comUsed for Negative evidence: the 113-method matrix contains no 'Virtual IBAN' or 'virtual account' entry; the only generic match is 'Bank transfer' (20 SEPA countries, EUR)Checked 21 October 2026
- Payment methods — Airwallex docs · airwallex.comUsed for Negative evidence: no 'Virtual IBAN', 'virtual account' or 'Global Account' entry in the payment-method list, despite Airwallex implementing collections this wayChecked 21 October 2026

- EBA finds divergences in issuance and regulation of virtual IBANs across the EU (24 May 2024) · eba.europa.euUsed for Regulatory status: no common definition exists, the industry issues vIBANs in different ways for different purposes, and national authorities diverge in applying EU law (AMLD, PSD2, SEPA Regulation), creating regulatory arbitrageChecked 21 October 2026
- Virtual IBANs | Instantly reconcile user deposits | Volt · volt.ioUsed for Refutes the record's implication that no provider brands the literal term: Volt's product is named 'Virtual IBANs' ('Assign a unique Virtual IBAN to every customer'), sold for per-customer deposit matching. Also shows the only coverage such a provider states is merchant-side eligibility (merchants based in Europe and the UK; EUR and GBP), not payer geography — which is why it must not become method coverage.Checked 21 October 2026
- Virtual Accounts Bank Transfer Integration Guide — EBANX docs · docs.ebanx.comUsed for The real, separate method that a 'Virtual IBAN' row would be confused with: Indonesia only, IDR, a unique transaction-specific bank account number generated at checkout across CIMB Niaga, BSI, BCA, Bank Neo Commerce, BNI, Mandiri, BRI, BTN, Permata, Danamon, Bank Sahabat Sampoerna, Maybank and Sinarmas. IBAN is never mentioned.Checked 21 October 2026
