Zamtel Mobile Money enables Zambian consumers to store value, send funds, and pay merchants via USSD or app-based authorization. Wallets are funded through agents, bank transfers, or mobile credits. Merchants benefit from instant settlement, low fraud, and broad reach across unbanked populations. Ideal for utilities, e-commerce, retail, and digital services in Zambia’s rapidly growing mobile money ecosystem.
What Zamtel costs
Merchants do not pay Zamtel directly. Each payment provider that offers it sets its own rate, so compare a few and ask them to quote.
What the last check found
Zamtel is one of Zambia's three mobile money networks, alongside MTN MoMo and Airtel Money. It is the wallet arm of Zambia Telecommunications Company Limited, a telco wholly owned by the Government of the Republic of Zambia; Wikipedia states the sole shareholder is the Zambian government. Zamtel's own site (route /zamtel-money) brands the product "Zamtel Money" and markets it as a wallet for sending and receiving money, bill and road-tax payment, wallet loans, international money transfers and an agent cash-in/cash-out network, all driven from *115# or the MyZamtel app. The site does not publish any merchant-acquiring or API documentation, so for an integrator Zamtel is reachable only through an aggregator.
The only gateway documentation that names it is Flutterwave. Its "Charge via Zambia mobile money" API reference makes `network` a required field whose enum is MTN, Airtel and Zamtel, with `currency` required and documented as ZMW (default ZMW). That is the basis for the single country and currency row here. Flutterwave's accompanying guide adds that the method is enabled by default for Zambian merchants and needs approval for non-Zambian ones.
No gateway states features for it. Flutterwave's Zambia collection pages are silent on refunds, recurring and chargebacks, and its mobile money payouts page lists Zambia (ZMW) with only the network code MPS — Zamtel is absent from the payout side, so payouts should not be assumed. Adyen, Airwallex, Antom, Stripe, Checkout.com, Worldline and dLocal do not document it; dLocal's Zambia page is cards only and Zambia has no dLocal payouts page.
