UPI is India’s real-time bank-to-bank payment system enabling instant transfers using virtual payment addresses, QR codes, or mobile numbers. Customers authenticate through UPI-enabled apps using secure PIN verification and allows customers to send funds to eachother via P2P. Merchants receive immediate, irreversible settlement with extremely low fees and high adoption. UPI powers massive digital commerce growth in India and is ideal for e-commerce, utilities, subscriptions, and retail payments. UPI was developed by the National Payments Corporation of India (NPCI).

What UPI costs
Merchants do not pay UPI directly. Each payment provider that offers it sets its own rate, so compare a few and ask them to quote.

Nuvei's integration data records this as an acceptance method rather than a payout rail: it takes payments and supports refunds, but money cannot be sent out through it. The distinction matters because a "supported payment methods" list treats paying in and paying out as the same thing, and for most local rails they are not — of the methods checked in this pass, far more accept money than return it.
A single-country method, in India, documented by Adyen, Antom, Nuvei and Stripe. Nothing wrong with that — a domestic rail is usually the cheapest and highest-converting way to be paid in its own market, and the reason to care about it is precisely that it is the local default rather than a global option.
Adyen files it under "Direct debit", and states it supports Chargebacks, Multiple partial refunds, Partial refunds and Recurring. Its catalog is the one place in this industry that publishes a method's countries, its processing currencies and its settlement currencies separately, which is the difference between what a customer can be charged in and what a merchant can be paid in.
One constraint that is easy to miss: a provider documenting this method also states where the MERCHANT has to be incorporated for it to be offered — Austria, Australia, Belgium, Bulgaria, Canada, Switzerland, Cyprus, the Czech Republic and 29 more. Where a shopper can pay from and where a business can be registered are different questions, and it is the second one that decides whether you can sign at all.
