Currencycloud is a London company that sells cross-border payments infrastructure to banks and fintechs rather than to merchants directly. Visa agreed to buy it in July 2021 in a deal valued at £700 million ($963 million), and Companies House shows Visa Open Connect Limited taking control of The Currency Cloud Group Limited on 20 December 2021. The business still trades under the Currencycloud name, and its UK companies are registered at Sheldon Square in Paddington.
Clients use it through an API in four parts. Collect handles incoming funds and the accounts they land in, Convert covers foreign exchange rates and conversions, Pay sends money to beneficiaries, and Manage looks after accounts, balances, contacts and reporting. Integration guides also cover Confirmation of Payee for outgoing UK payments and the EU's Verification of Payee, which points to domestic sterling and euro payouts alongside international ones. At the time of the Visa deal it had about 500 customers in 180 countries, with Monzo, Starling, Revolut and Dwolla among them.
Other payment companies build on it. Modulr, for example, names The Currency Cloud Limited as the provider of its FX and international payments. That pattern is typical: Currencycloud suits banks, digital banks, payroll and expense software and payment firms that want to offer multi-currency wallets or international transfers under their own brand.
A merchant that wants to take card payments needs an acquirer instead. Currencycloud's public pages give no current list of currencies, corridors or prices, so confirm the routes you need, and which Currencycloud entity you would contract with, during onboarding.

What Currencycloud costs
Currencycloud quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found
Thin listing: currencycloud.com renders only with JavaScript and returned just a 'Loading...' shell; the help centre returned 403; the search budget for this run ran out before Currencycloud's regulatory entities could be checked. Still trades as Currencycloud (site and developer portal titles), so not treated as absorbed into Visa. Regulation left empty: The Currency Cloud Limited is widely described as an FCA-authorised e-money institution, and the group has EU and other licences, but no reference number was read on a register or first-party legal page. founded_year null: Companies House shows The Currency Cloud Limited and The Currency Cloud Group Limited incorporated in July 2007; secondary sources often give a later founding year, which was not verified. Countries limited to GB (UK companies and named UK clients); the 180-country customer figure is from 2021 and not expanded. Currencies and methods left empty because no current list was readable. A reviewer should add the FCA FRN, EU entity and currency list from currencycloud.com/legal and the developer portal's currency reference.
