Zip is an Australian buy now, pay later company, set up in Sydney in 2013 by Larry Diamond and Peter Gray as zipMoney and listed on the ASX under the ticker ZIP. It entered the US in 2020 by buying the rest of New York's QuadPay, and America now drives the business: in the year to June 2026 Zip handled A$16.7 billion of transactions, roughly three-quarters of it in the US, for 6.5 million active customers.
The products differ by country. In Australia, Zip Pay is a reusable limit of up to A$1,000, Zip Plus offers limits from A$2,000 to A$20,000, and Zip Money funds bigger purchases with interest-free periods set by the retailer. US shoppers use Pay in 4: a quarter at checkout and the rest every two weeks, for orders of about $35 to $1,500 when taken through Stripe. Either way the merchant is paid the full amount less fees and Zip carries the credit and fraud risk. Australian credit comes from ZipMoney Payments Pty Ltd under Australian Credit Licence 441878; US loans made through the Zip app and checkout are originated by WebBank.
Merchants can integrate directly through Zip's API, JavaScript SDK and mobile SDKs, use plugins for Shopify, WooCommerce, BigCommerce, Magento and Salesforce Commerce Cloud, or switch Zip on inside Stripe or Adyen. US pricing on the Standard plan starts at 5.9% plus 30 cents a transaction with no monthly fee, and larger merchants negotiate. Australian rates are quoted on application, with no setup costs or lock-in, and funds arrive the next day.
Zip suits retailers selling to consumers in Australia or the US, and nowhere else. It wound down its UK and Singapore businesses in 2022 and stopped new New Zealand purchases in August 2026. Fuel, gambling, crypto, financial services and several software categories are excluded under Stripe's Zip terms, so check eligibility before building around it.

What Zip costs
Zip quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

Pricing, in detail
US Standard plan: from 5.9% + $0.30 per transaction, no monthly or annual fees; Custom plan priced by negotiation. Australia: no setup costs, ongoing fees or lock-in; merchant service fees set per business at application (lower for Zip Pay/Zip Plus, tiered for long interest-free terms) and not published.
What the last check found
New Zealand is left out: Zip began an orderly wind-down in July 2026 and NZ spend limits went to zero on 16 August 2026; existing balances are still being repaid. Adyen's docs list AU and US only (an older search snippet mentioned NZ). Adyen marks Zip as supporting recurring/tokenised payments while Stripe does not, so recurring-payments is not recorded. US merchant settlement time is not published by Zip; Stripe settles Zip at T+2. The US pricing page shows the Standard rate only as a starting point; what moves a merchant above it is not stated. Zip's US NMLS ID is taken from its own footer, not checked on NMLS Consumer Access. The A$16.7bn TTV and 6.52m customers come from press coverage of the FY26 result, not the ASX filing itself. Australian site cites 60,000+ retail partners; no current group merchant count was found.
