Cashfree Payments was set up in Bengaluru in 2015 by Akash Sinha and Reeju Datta. Its operating company, Cashfree Payments India Private Limited, is authorised by the Reserve Bank of India as an online payment aggregator and as an issuer of prepaid payment instruments, and in July 2024 it became the first firm to receive the RBI's cross-border aggregator authorisation covering both exports and imports. SBI, Y Combinator and Apis Partners are among its investors.
The gateway is built around how Indians pay. UPI works by app intent, QR code or collect request. Cards run on Visa, Mastercard, RuPay, American Express and Diners Club, net banking covers more than 50 banks, and customers can also push NEFT, RTGS or IMPS transfers to a virtual account. Wallets include PhonePe, Amazon Pay and MobiKwik, and shoppers can split purchases through card EMI, cardless EMI or LazyPay. Overseas buyers can pay by international card, PayPal or Apple Pay. Recurring billing runs over UPI AutoPay, card mandates and eNACH, and payouts, payment links and split settlement are sold alongside.
Prices are published. The standard domestic rate is 1.95% plus GST across UPI, cards, net banking and wallets, while international Visa and Mastercard cost 2.99% and international Amex 2.95%. Card EMI and pay later are priced separately, there is no setup fee, and instant settlement, available on bank holidays too, adds 0.30%.
Cashfree suits Indian businesses of most sizes, and foreign companies that want to collect rupees from Indian customers. Settlement is in INR, so it is not a route into other domestic markets. In March 2026 the RBI fined the company ₹3.10 lakh over impermissible debits from its escrow account, a breach found in an inspection covering April 2024 to June 2025.

What Cashfree Payments costs
Cashfree Payments quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
- Settlement
- Scheduled INR settlement; instant settlement available as a paid add-on (0.30%)

What the last check found
The two RBI certificate numbers (PA 266/2025, PPI 209/2024) are as shown in Cashfree's own site footer; they were not checked against an RBI list. The PA number is dated 2025 although final PA authorisation was reported in December 2023, so it may be a reissued certificate. The pricing page shows 1.95% and 2.0% side by side without labels; 1.95% is the rate the page names as standard. ZestMoney, still listed in Cashfree's docs as a cardless EMI provider, is left out. Cashfree also invested $15m in UAE gateway Telr in 2021; that business is not part of this listing. Merchant onboarding documents were not confirmed, so onboarding_requirements is empty.
