Omise is a payment gateway started in Thailand in 2013 by Jun Hasegawa and Ezra Don Harinsut. For a little over two years the business traded as Opn, with the gateway sold as Opn Payments, and in March 2025 it returned to the Omise name and began pitching itself as a payments technology company. Its group, OPN Holdings, counts Toyota Financial Services and SCB 10X, the venture arm of Siam Commercial Bank, among its main shareholders, and in 2022 it bought the US processor MerchantE, which kept its own brand.
Merchants can sign up in Thailand, Japan, Singapore and Malaysia, and each country has its own price list. Thailand is the largest market. There Omise takes Visa, Mastercard, JCB, Amex and UnionPay cards with instalments, PromptPay QR, mobile banking apps such as K PLUS and SCB Easy, direct debit, and wallets including TrueMoney, Rabbit LINE Pay, ShopeePay, Alipay and WeChat Pay. Japan adds convenience-store payment, Pay-easy and PayPay; Singapore adds PayNow, GrabPay and Apple Pay; Malaysia adds FPX, DuitNow, Touch 'n Go and Boost. Atome and SPayLater cover pay later.
Prices are public. Thai card payments cost 3.65% plus VAT and PromptPay 1.65%, Singapore cards 3.30% plus S$0.30, and Malaysian domestic cards 2.50%. In Japan the card rate runs from 2.95% to 4.55% depending on how fast funds are released, anywhere from 21 days down to one. The Singapore company holds a Major Payment Institution licence from the Monetary Authority of Singapore, granted in 2024. Larger clients and banks can also buy payment orchestration across several gateways, payment facilitation and acquiring software.
Omise suits online businesses in Thailand first, and merchants in its other three markets who want local methods at listed rates. It reports more than 230,000 merchants across five countries, the US included. Its site does not set out licences outside Singapore, so ask which entity you will contract with.
What Omise costs
Omise quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found
Named 'Omise' because the company dropped the Opn / Opn Payments brand in March 2025; the slug is unchanged. HQ is recorded as Japan: Omise's own 2022 announcement places the group in Tokyo, although the business started in Thailand, the footer entity is Omise Co., Ltd. and its about page lists Bangkok first among its offices. The US presence is MerchantE, which kept its own brand, so the US is not listed as a country. Co-founder Ezra Don Harinsut left in April 2025 (newsroom item seen in search results only). No MAS licence number was found on Omise's pages; a third-party directory gives the company's UEN (201613920H), which is not a licence number. Bank of Thailand, Japanese and Malaysian authorisations were not verified, so they are left out. The Thai pricing page calls the wallet 'Line Pay'; it is mapped to rabbit-line (Thailand's Rabbit LINE Pay). Plug-in integrations were not checked.
