Token.io builds account-to-account payment infrastructure. It was started in Silicon Valley in 2015 by the entrepreneur Steve Kirsch, set up its UK company in London in April 2016, and is now run from London by chief executive Todd Clyde. Token.io Ltd gained FCA authorisation for payment initiation and account information services in May 2018 (firm reference 795904), and its Berlin subsidiary, Token GmbH, holds the matching authorisation from BaFin.
Most of its customers are other payment businesses. HSBC has used Token since 2019 to run HSBC Open Payments and took a strategic stake in June 2025, while payment providers including Global Payments, Paysafe, Computop and Ecommpay route bank payments through it. The product set covers single immediate payments, variable recurring payments, reusable pay-by-bank links and QR codes, bank account ownership checks, and real-time payouts and refunds. Settlement accounts with local IBANs and virtual accounts come through Modulr's e-money entities in the UK and the Netherlands. Partners without their own open banking licence can operate under Token's.
The coverage page names 21 markets: the UK plus Austria, Belgium, Denmark, Estonia, Finland, France, Germany, Hungary, Ireland, Italy, Latvia, Lithuania, Luxembourg, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Portugal, Romania, Spain and Sweden. Token says its direct bank connections reach more than 90% of accounts in most of these, and about 567 million accounts in all. Euro payments can use SEPA Instant. Prices are not published.
Token fits payment companies, banks and large merchants in sectors such as ecommerce, crypto and iGaming that want to control their own pay-by-bank flow. A smaller merchant will usually meet Token through one of its PSP partners rather than sign directly. It does not handle cards or any market outside Europe.

What Token.io costs
Token.io quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

Pricing, in detail
No public pricing (token.io/pricing returns 404); priced per contract.
What the last check found
Founding year 2015 comes from search snippets (Dealroom and press); one source says 2016, which matches the UK company's incorporation. The 2018 press release gave San Francisco as headquarters; 2025 coverage describes Token.io as London-based. Faster Payments is inferred for UK pay by bank (UK single immediate payments run on it) but Token's payments page names only SEPA Instant. Currencies limited to GBP and EUR; local-currency support in Poland, Hungary, Romania and the Nordics was not confirmed. Settlement accounts are provided by Modulr FS Limited (FCA FRN 900573) and Modulr Finance B.V. (DNB R182870), not by Token itself. Integration options (hosted pages, SDKs, plugins) could not be confirmed from the docs; only the API is recorded.
