PayPal Point of Sale is the in-person payments service PayPal built on iZettle, a Stockholm start-up founded in 2010 by Jacob de Geer and Magnus Nilsson. PayPal bought it in 2018 for a reported $2.2 billion, renamed it Zettle by PayPal in 2021 and gave it the PayPal Point of Sale name from 2 June 2026. The card reader is now sold as PayPal Reader and the countertop device as PayPal Terminal.
It is aimed at small shops, cafés, market traders and others that take payments face to face. Merchants run a free POS app on a phone or tablet with a reader, or use Tap to Pay on the phone itself, and can accept Visa, Mastercard and American Express, contactless phones and PayPal QR codes. In the UK it is provided by PayPal UK Ltd, an electronic money institution authorised by the FCA under firm reference 994790. Takings go to the merchant's PayPal business account, usually at once and at the latest within the business day, and can be moved to a bank without a fee.
UK pricing is public. In-person card and wallet payments cost 1.75%, with no monthly fee or contract. PayPal QR payments at 1.75% and invoices at 2.5% are limited to sellers who joined before 8 May 2023, and payment links are closed to new sellers for now. The reader costs £29 plus VAT for a new business's first device and £69 for extra ones, and the Terminal starts at £149.
The service runs in the UK, Sweden, Denmark, Finland, Norway, Germany, the Netherlands, France, Spain, Italy and Mexico; the Brazilian business closed in April 2023. Accounts are tied to the country of registration, so in the UK only UK residents and UK-authorised companies can sign up. It suits small merchants who already use PayPal or want flat pricing without a contract, but offers little for multi-country or heavily integrated setups.

What PayPal Point of Sale costs
PayPal Point of Sale quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found
Named by its current trading name, PayPal Point of Sale (rename effective 2 June 2026 per the UK terms; Mexico already uses "Punto de venta de PayPal"); slug kept as zettle. A reviewer may prefer to fold this into the existing paypal listing, but it is a separate POS product with its own terms, hardware and pricing. Countries come from Zettle's help-centre country list minus Brazil (closed April 2023). Wikipedia also lists the US among markets; zettle.com/us returned 404 and US availability was not verified, so the US is left out. Apple Pay and Google Pay are not named (only 'mobile wallets' / contactless phones), so they are not listed. EU-entity licensing (likely PayPal Europe in Luxembourg) was not verified. Currencies: only GBP and SEK seen on pricing pages; EUR, NOK, DKK and MXN are likely but not recorded.
