Shift4 is a US payments company listed on the New York Stock Exchange under the ticker FOUR and based in Center Valley, Pennsylvania. Its roots are in hospitality: hotels, restaurants, stadiums and ticketing are still where it is strongest, and it sells its own point-of-sale software and terminals alongside the processing.
It has grown by acquisition. Buying Finaro (formerly Credorax), a card acquirer with a Maltese banking licence, gave it its own acquiring across Europe from October 2023 and is being rebranded as Shift4. In 2025 it bought Global Blue, known for tax-free shopping refunds and dynamic currency conversion, and Smartpay, a terminal provider in Australia and New Zealand.
For online sellers it offers a card gateway with Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Discover, JCB, Diners Club and UnionPay, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay. European methods such as iDEAL, BLIK, Bancontact and Klarna are available through the same integration. Hotels, venues and airlines also get multi-currency pricing, tokenisation and dynamic currency conversion.
Pricing is quoted, not published. Shift4 suits businesses that want one provider for counters, kiosks and the website, especially in hospitality and travel. A pure online merchant with simple needs may find the onboarding heavier than with a self-serve gateway. Check which entity will contract with you, since US, European and Australasian accounts are run by different companies in the group.

What Shift4 costs
Shift4 quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
