Pin Payments is an Australian online card processor for small businesses and software platforms, operated by Southern Payment Systems Pty Ltd from Melbourne. Grant Bissett and Dominic Pym founded it in 2013. Checkout.com bought it in 2020, when it served more than 12,000 businesses in Australia and New Zealand, and Fat Zebra, another Australian payments firm, announced its own purchase of Pin in December 2024. The brand carries on and describes itself as a Fat Zebra company.
The pitch is a single account that bundles gateway, acquiring and risk checks, so merchants do not need a separate merchant facility from a bank. Pin takes Visa, Mastercard, American Express, eftpos, JCB, Discover and Diners Club, plus Apple Pay and Google Pay, and lets merchants bill overseas customers in their own currency. Its API covers subscriptions and payment plans, refunds, webhooks and transfers to bank accounts, which platforms use to pay their own sellers, and a separate test environment comes with its own keys. Hosted payment pages and plug-ins for Shopify, WooCommerce, Magento and BigCommerce serve businesses without developers, and Xero users can let customers pay invoices by card.
Prices are on the website. Australian businesses pay from 1.6% plus 30c on domestic cards and 3.4% plus 30c on international cards, GST included, with no setup fee, monthly fee or lock-in contract. Charges taken in a foreign currency and converted to Australian dollars carry a further 1.7%, a dispute lost to the cardholder costs $25, and each payout to a third party costs 30c.
Pin suits online sellers, subscription businesses and platforms in Australia and New Zealand that want published rates and a straightforward API. It does not offer card terminals for in-person sales. With the Fat Zebra takeover still recent, ask whether plans, terms or the platform itself are due to change before you commit.

What Pin Payments costs
Pin Payments quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
Pricing, in detail
Domestic cards from 1.6% + 30c, international 3.4% + 30c (AU incl. GST; NZ excl. GST). Foreign currency settled in AUD: 3.4% + 30c plus 1.7% conversion. NZ foreign settlement 3.9% + 30c. Lost dispute $25; third-party transfer 30c.
What the last check found
Acquisition date conflict: Fat Zebra's own post is dated 11 December 2024; Five V Capital's note (July 2025) and PitchBook (16 September 2025) give later dates, possibly completion. Founding year: Checkout.com says 2013; several data aggregators say 2011. The currency list comes from a 2013 Pin blog post; current docs only describe 'foreign currencies' without a list, so currencies other than AUD/NZD may be out of date. No financial services licence is shown on Pin's site, so regulation is empty. Settlement timing is not stated on the pricing page. Pin is not a duplicate of any listing; Fat Zebra (parent) is not in the directory.
