Stone is the merchant brand of StoneCo, a Brazilian payments group founded in 2012 by André Street and Eduardo Pontes, who had earlier built or backed payment firms such as Braspag and MOIP. StoneCo listed on Nasdaq in 2018. It sold the Linx retail software business in February 2026 and is again concentrated on payments, banking and credit. The operating company, Stone Instituição de Pagamento, is authorised by the Banco Central do Brasil as an acquirer and an e-money issuer.
Card machines and TapStone, which turns a phone into a terminal, take more than 50 credit, debit and benefit-card brands. These run from Visa, Mastercard, Elo, Hipercard, Hiper and American Express to meal and food vouchers such as Alelo, Ticket, VR and Pluxee. Online selling runs through Pagar.me, the group's gateway: cards with up to 12 instalments, debit with 3D Secure, Pix, registered boleto and online benefit vouchers, plus payment links, split payments for marketplaces and franchises, and recurring billing. Stone-built apps connect it to Shopify and Nuvemshop, and there is an API for custom builds. The group also runs a second card-machine brand, Ton.
StoneCo processed R$560.9 billion in 2025, card and Pix QR volumes included, for about 4.8 million active payment clients. Rates are not published as a single table. They depend on the plan and on monthly takings, and terminal rental can be waived above set sales levels. Sole traders are offered instant release of their takings into the Stone account.
The offer is built around the Brazilian market, with accounts, payouts and pricing in reais. It suits shops, service businesses and online sellers in Brazil rather than foreign merchants looking for a cross-border route into the country, and the Pagar.me apps require a Brazilian company number (CNPJ). Larger merchants should ask for a quote, as rates quoted on comparison sites vary widely.

What Stone costs
Stone quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.
- Settlement
- Instant release offered to sole traders; other payout terms depend on plan and rate
Pricing, in detail
No public rate table on stone.com.br; rates depend on plan and monthly sales, and terminal rental can be waived by volume. The Nuvemshop app listing shows Pix 0.99% and card 3.89%-4.19%, but that is not Stone's own pricing page, so it is not recorded.
What the last check found
Stone's brand pages name 12 example brands of 50+; Discover is named on a separate Stone article. Cabal and Banescard appear only in third-party guides and are not recorded. Hiper is not in the taxonomy and is proposed as a new term. The 20-F narrative sections did not render, so StoneCo's other licences (Stone SCD, Stone DTVM licensed November 2025, Stone Cartões application of June 2025) were seen only in filing tags and search snippets and are not recorded. Pagar.me's own payment-institution application was withdrawn in 2024 when its acquiring moved to Stone IP. No onboarding outside Brazil found; StoneCo filing tags mention entities in other Latin American countries, but no merchant offering there was confirmed.
