Payplug is a French payment provider started in 2012 by two engineers. It joined Groupe BPCE in 2017, and in 2022 it merged with Dalenys, another BPCE payments business, keeping the Payplug name. In September 2026 BPCE grouped its merchant payment activities into a new unit, BPCE Merchant Services, with Payplug kept as the brand and technology base. The licensed company, Payplug Enterprise SAS, is a payment institution supervised by the ACPR under bank code 16378.
It handles online and in-store payments for small and mid-sized merchants. A direct connection to the Cartes Bancaires network counts for a lot in France, where CB is the card most shoppers reach for. Alongside it come Visa, Mastercard, American Express, Apple Pay and PayPal, plus Bancontact, iDEAL, MyBank, Satispay, Wero and ANCV Connect for digital holiday vouchers, with instalments through Oney and Scalapay. Ready-made modules cover PrestaShop, WooCommerce, Shopify, Magento, Salesforce Commerce Cloud, BigCommerce and many French platforms, and in-store payments connect to till software such as Tiller and HiBoutik.
Pricing is published. Starter costs €10 a month for turnover up to €100,000, with euro-zone consumer cards at 1.5% plus €0.25 online. Pro costs €30 a month for turnover up to €1 million and cuts that rate to 1.1%. Business cards are 2.5% and international cards 2.9% on either plan, and in-store payments carry a €0.10 fixed fee instead of €0.25. Larger merchants move to Enterprise pricing built on interchange. Funds are transferred daily, in euros.
Payplug fits merchants whose customers are mostly French. Its help centre lists 14 European countries where it is available, but the company describes the product as optimised for France and has offices only in Paris, Milan and Amsterdam. Businesses that need to settle in currencies other than the euro should look elsewhere.

What Payplug costs
Payplug quotes per merchant. What you are offered depends on your volume, your industry, the countries you sell in, your card mix and your risk profile — so a published headline rate would not be your rate. Ask them for a quote against your own numbers.

What the last check found
The 14-country list comes from a Payplug help article that says where the service is available without stating whether merchants must be registered there; treat it as medium confidence. Payplug's legal page names the ACPR and CIB 16378 but not the licence category; payment-institution status is stated by Caisse d'Epargne and Banque Populaire pages, one of which also prints CIB 16778 (probably a typo). Not checked on REGAFI (site not reachable). Merchant counts differ across Payplug pages (17,000, 18,000, 20,000+). Caisse d'Epargne also lists Sofort and Giropay; Giropay has closed and neither appears on Payplug's own method page, so both are left out. Google Pay is not listed by Payplug. Onboarding documents were not found on a Payplug page.
